WRITING TASK 2
You should spend about 40 minutes on this task.
Write about the following topic:
It should not be allowed to sell any food or drink that has been scientifically proved to be bad for people’s health.
To what extent do you agree or disagree?
Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.
Write at least 250 words.
【改写】It has been suggested that unhealthy food and drinks should not be available for the public to purchase. 【主旨】While there are some downsides of consuming such food and drinks, they are needed by some for several reasons.
【中心句】On the one hand, it is detrimental for individuals’ physical well-being to consume junk food or beverage in a long run.【分论点 1】Food that is high in sodium, saturated fat or added sugar may contribute to the failure of certain body functions. 【举例】To illustrate, a large intake of sugar may not be fully processed by kidneys, leading to kidney-related diseases, like diabetes.【分论点 2】 Furthermore, alcoholic beverages can do more harm. When alcohol accumulates in an individual’s body in a small amount of time, that person’s ability to think clearly and logically can soon be impaired and then his or her body function is influenced, such as walking straight. In some rare cases, serious damages can be done, including stroke or heart attack. Therefore, banning this kind of food and drinks seems to be beneficial in terms of maintaining one’s physical condition.
【中心句】On the other hand, it is important to consider that junk food, most of which is affordable, is needed by many. 【解释】It is widely acknowledged that the food sold in McDonald’s, KFC and Pizza Hut is made from cheap ingredients, thus being available at a low price and allowing people with little money to buy. Despite being unhealthy, such food guarantees survival of the poor since fruit and vegetables, known as healthy food, can be considerably more expensive due to more money spent on transporting and refrigerating the products.
【总结】To sum up, junk food and beverage can be harmful to people’s physical health, whereas people with low income may still need them to stay alive. This is the reason why I believe junk food should not be banned, but national authorities can educate the dangers of it to promote a healthy dietary habit.
