• Some people prefer to get information from books. Others prefer using a computer to access information via the Internet. Which do you prefer? Explain why.
• OK, I absolutely believe that accessing information via the Internet is a smarter move. First, the info there is much more up-to-date than that in books. You know, when I was preparing for my presentation in business school, I surfed Wikipedia and other business forums where I downloaded plenty of recent business cases like the 5G case of Huawei. Besides, the Internet presents knowledge in more vivid forms by showing pictures, videos, cartoons, audio, and others. In this way, it is more likely for us to remember things clearly and have a better understanding.

TPO 64 TASK 2
• The university decided to build a cafe in the basement of the library because it is convenient for teachers and students, and they can be more productive if they could take short breaks there. However, the woman in the conversation does not like this plan. First, even though people do not have to leave the building for food, it might cause problems since walking outside is not necessary especially when the weather is bad. In this way, it is not good as the cafe only provides unhealthy snacks, you know, junk food. Besides, the library will become a place for chatting, which means students are tempted to go down to talk with their friends. Therefore, it is unlikely for them to concentrate. You see, the whole plan might backfire. And this is why the man disagrees.

• Paradox of choice means that we like to have more choices which contrarily cause us more distress. The professor in the lecture uses his own experience to illustrate this concept. Last week, he went shopping for jeans in a store where the salesman provided 5 styles, you know, like straight, baggy, buttons, zippers and others for him to choose from. His shopping used to be easy, but now it becomes extremely hard because he hesitated back and forth, not sure whether a pair of jeans is comfortable or fashionable enough. Finally, he decided to buy one. The process took him 2 hours which used to be only 5 minutes. It was so complex and time-consuming that caused his headache, which made him more anxious and unsatisfied when he left.

TPO 64 TASK 4
题目:Using the examples from the lecture, explain why forest fires are beneficial to the forest ecosystem.
• In the lecture, the professor talks about why forest fires are beneficial to the forest ecosystem. First, it has an impact on plant species that depend on fire for survival. For example, the reproduction of pine trees benefits from forest fires which melt the resin on the seeds of the pinecones. In this way, the seeds get open up and released and thus create a new generation of pine trees. Moreover, forest fires build better habitats for wildlife species. For instance, it impacts the density of the forest by killing some trees which block sunshine. After the fire, the shrubs and grass get more sunshine and thrive, which provides opportunities for new animal species. You see, these are the two benefits of forest fires (that people have realized in the past twenty years).
